Possessions Do Not Make Us Happy

What does our happiness depend on?

Many would answer: a good job, a nice home, beautiful clothes, interesting holidays, frequent social activities…

Many would be wrong.

According to a study by Sonja Lyubomirsky, our happiness is made up of three factors:

Genetics, which are responsible for 50% of our happiness

Intentional activities (the things we do, the habits we have, the deicisions we make, our outlook on events) are responsible for 40% of our happiness.

Which leaves only 10% for Environment – the weather, the people around us, our job, our salary, our possessions…

This means that our possessions make a pretty insignificant contribution to our happiness! How’s that for a contradiction to everything we’ve been taught?
