Do You Want Safety or Freedom?

The things we hold on to in order to keep us safe are often the things that are preventing us from claiming our freedom.

  1. I suppose it depends on what is meant by safe!

I was defining it as having enough money to recover from any kind of upset financially. Freedom to me is the ability to make decisions for peace of mind/health etc without money issues preventing them

So, for us- living far beneath our means keeps us both safe and free 🙂

  2. Those who want ADVENTURE in their life must choose ~ because “boats are SAFE in harbor, but that’s not what boats are for.”

Those who are CONTENT being “home bodies” may never need to choose ~ because they don’t have to “lose sight of the shore” in order to feel FREE.

    • You’re completely right. Although even ‘home bodies’ may have things that prevent them being free and light, and these are different to the adventure-type ones.

  4. I know some people who have millions of dollars, which would be enough for most people to live well on for the rest of their lifetime. These same people do not feel they have enough. They have a hunger which seems to be insatiable.
I also know some people which have zero financial net worth. Some of these feel they have enough.
It seems to me the difference between these is not the stuff – the possessions – the size of the pile. It’s about their own inner value of what is enough.

    • Precisely – I know people in both situations, too, and the difference always surprises me. What I treasure most, though, are people who don’t focus on possessions or material worth no matter how much money they have. People who cultivate actions, experiences and relationships, rather than things!
